Silk chiffon styled as a boudoir photoshoot outfit in the studio

Planning your boudoir photoshoot outfits is one of the most exciting parts of your experience. The wardrobe you select sets the tone, from playful to powerful, romantic to bold and helps you feel confident in front of the camera.

In this post, I’m sharing 6 outfit ideas that always photograph beautifully, along with links to extra resources if you’d like to dive deeper.

You can read my blog on Where to Buy Boudoir Outfits for client-approved shopping recommendations or explore my Boudoir Wardrobe Guide (free to download) for 12 more styling tips.

With these ideas in hand, you’ll feel more prepared, inspired, and ready to create images that are completely you.

#1 Silks

Silk is one of my favourite materials for boudoir photoshoot outfits. It moves beautifully, draping over the body in a way that feels both soft and luxurious. Whether it’s silk lingerie, a robe, or a flowing piece of chiffon, this fabric adds elegance and fluidity to your portraits.

If you decide to book with me, you won’t need to worry about sourcing it yourself — I keep a selection of silk chiffons in the studio, in pinks, nudes, and blacks, ready to style into your session.

#2 White Shirt

The oversized white shirt is a timeless boudoir photoshoot outfit, thanks in part to its iconic use in 90s fashion photography. Relaxed yet elegant, it creates striking lines and textures that work beautifully on camera.

You can wear it on its own for a timeless, understated look, or pair it with your favourite lingerie for contrast. Clients have even borrowed shirts from partners or family to add a personal touch.

If you’d like to explore variations, silky shirts also photograph wonderfully — especially in black or jewel tones. On camera, silk softens the shape and catches the light in a flattering way. And if we turn the images to black and white, the colour becomes less important than the sheen and drape of the fabric.

Fashion History Note: Fashion photographer Peter Lindberg made this look famous, but French stylist Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele was responsible for the look.

#3 Your favourite lingerie

Nothing feels more natural than wearing the lingerie you already love. Your go-to bra and knicker set. The one you reach for when you want a confidence boost, often photographs beautifully because you already feel comfortable in it.

Many clients bring along their best-loved sets in a few colours, and we style them in different ways during the session. Whether it’s soft lace, bold colour, or a sleek everyday design, the key is that it makes you feel like yourself.

When you book with me, we’ll talk through your favourite pieces at the style consult so you know exactly what to bring, and how each outfit can create a different mood in your portraits.

#4 Bodysuits

Bodysuits are a versatile and flattering choice for a boudoir photoshoot. Their form-fitting design highlights curves, elongates the legs, and creates clean, simple lines that photograph beautifully.

They also offer plenty of variety, from delicate lace to sleek modern cuts, so you can choose a style that feels playful, elegant, or bold. Because the design keeps focus on your shape and expression, bodysuits work especially well if you’d like portraits that balance strength and softness.

During your session, I’ll guide you with posing and expression so you feel confident and comfortable throughout.

#5 Bedsheets

Simple yet endlessly versatile, bedsheets are a boudoir photoshoot classic. They can be wrapped loosely for a soft, romantic feel, or draped closely for something more sculptural and dramatic.

The beauty of this option is how adaptable it is, one sheet can create multiple looks in a single session. White sheets feel timeless and elegant, while darker tones can add mood and intensity.

If you’d prefer not to bring your own, I keep freshly laundered sheets in the studio so you can enjoy this effortless, intimate style without any extra planning.

#6 Full lingerie set

For many clients, the full lingerie set, bra, garter belt, knickers, and stockings, feels like the boldest option. It’s classic, elegant, and undeniably powerful on camera.

The garter belt typically sits just below the belly button and creates beautiful lines that highlight your curves. Stockings add texture and a touch of vintage glamour, whether you choose sheer, patterned, or opaque.

If you’ve never worn a garter before, don’t worry. I’ll guide you through styling and fastening so you feel comfortable and confident throughout.
